Professional Engineers Curling League

Worth Mentioning

From time to time, something occurs in our League that is worth preserving.
Since 1964 there have been many such occurrences.  Here are a few.

Excerpt from Letter to Professional Engineers Curling League Chairman, Ed Truman
Pat Ryan, April 19/2001

This is the 37th Annual Banquet of the Professional Engineers Curling League and I think I can claim to have attended all except three, or perhaps four. You don't have to be an engineer to conclude that I must, to say the least, be "getting on" and that is may be time for me to retire from the pleasant task of handing over the Ryan Trophy.

It has been 15 years since I retired as General Secretary of the APEO and it has been a source of great pride and honour to me that in every one of those 15 years, the league executive has invited me to return and present the Ryan Trophy. It has meant a great deal to me and it is with great reluctance that I write finish to it.
-- and so:

I congratulate, for the last time, this year's winners of the Ryan Cup and I thank this years executive and through them, all the executive committees of the past 40 years, for many happy memories. Bless you all and farewell.

Pat Ryan

The Top Ten Signs You're Having a Bad Curling Game

  • 10. The Icemaker starts pebbling the ice in the fourth end.
  • 9. You're Skip keeps saying "Nice Try!!"
  • 8. Your opposition start hanging their score on the next sheet.
  • 7. While you're in the washroom, your team-mates sneak away to the bar
  • 6. The Icemaker starts to heckle you.
  • 5. Its only third end, and you already owe your team-mates six drinks.
  • 4. Your opposition is lying four, and your skip calls for you to throw through.
  • 3. You throw out your knee in the first end** and your team-mates don't even notice.
  • 2. Your sweepers burst into laughter when you release your rock
  • 1. You score an eight-ender in the second end and have to throw your last rock to win 9-8.

** Note: For #3, in Jeff's hand writing, the first line is modified to read, "You miss 6 games for knee surgery and..."
